It was narrated by ‘Aa’ishah (may Allah be pleased with her): “The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) used to like sweet edible things and honey.” (Bukhari)
Our prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) was known for balance and moderation approach in everything. But many of us do not know when how to eat the delicious sweets in moderation. It is difficult to resist sweets, especially in the month of Ramadan.
Consumption of a large amount of sugar increases the risk of certain diseases, such as diabetes, heart, and cancer. To avoid problems that arise from excessive eating of white or table sugar, you can prepare low-calorie sweets at home by substituting sugar with natural alternatives to sugar, such as Stevia. Stevia makes you enjoy sweets without raising blood sugar level or causing weight gain. Also, if you want to use honey, it should be used in moderation because it also raises the level of sugar in the blood.
If you have to eat sweets made with white sugar, enjoy it, but you should pay attention to the size of the serving and be moderate in quantity to avoid consuming a lot of calories and gaining weight. In addition, try to avoid fried pastries. Do not eat dessert immediately after Iftar because it causes blood sugar spikes, which lead to increased hunger and a desire to eat more sweets. Therefore, it is best to eat sweets for at least two hours after Iftar.
